My Career First Milestone - Five Years of Becoming Auditor
Five years of becoming auditor, what does it feel?
One word: THRILLING!
My career began when I was have internship in one public accounting firm (KAP) in Jakarta in late 2010.
It's a second tier, top 20 (include big 4) among 300 something KAP in Indonesia.
When I was in high school, I only thought this profession is cool.
And yes it is. And it's more than cool.
After I finished internship in my vocational degree in 2011, I continue my study in extension program, which study time is at 7 PM.
So I utilised my 8-5 to work in the same place where I have my internship.
I choose working while studying, due to I don't want to start at the beginning when I finished my bachelor degree.
My Bsc last longer than usual track, which only 4 years.
I spent 5 years to get my Bsc which considered as fast among people with the same path like me.
When people can have one year experience already, I still have to finished my study.
That's why I choose to working and studying.
It's hard at first.
You must really set your mind, what's your purpose, working, or studying.
Well for me, I choose studying, while working only my side job.
That's why I choose workplace which can understand my position.
I don't want my job dragging me until I have to sacrifice my college.
During my college working time (if I can say it),
I can say I manage my time wisely.
I have a good achievement in office and my GPA still above 3.2.
I also can have my final year writing my thesis+having 4 subjects+still working
(Ps: My campus schedule is 7-9.30 PM, one subject each day, mon-fri, plus assistant lecture on saturday)
My boss encourage me that I can do my final year without taking break.
And yes I did!
If it's not supported by God, family, friends, office, and boyfriend that time, I'm sure I can't make it.
I really lack of sleep that time.
I have to work 8-5 PM, go to campus 7-9.30 PM, writing my thesis almost everyday from 10 PM-2AM, meet my professor in the morning or at night.
That's why, in my final year, I try to manage my office tasks effective and efficiently, I finished everything on time in the office. No overtime, no office tasks bring to home.
I have to strict with my schedule.
Then in 2013, I graduate with A score in thesis. And not long after I graduate, about one year or 6 months later, I promoted become audit supervisor (or assistant manager in other KAP term)..
That didn't satisfy me enough.
At that point, I realised I have to move if I wanna be more succeed.
I have to learn in a bigger place.
Then I decided to resign and apply to big 4.
Then in late 2014, I join with one of the big 4 that I really dream of.
And fortunately, I didn't have to start from the bottom.
Though I must lowering my grade, but at this place, I'm in the right position for my age, Senior 3, or have 3 years experience.
Different place, diffferent rank, different culture.
It's been more than one year I'm in this place.
And it's the right place if you really want to learn how become an auditor which better than other.
Why?
Because the firm and the client hired us with higher rate.
There's so many things that I learn from this place.
Knowledge, technical skill, and also softskill.
And I'm so lucky, I can also feel promotion in this place when I only 6 months here.
I feel many different things between in my previous office with this one. But I will tell that in another blog post.
During my auditor journey, in 2014, I've been calling by my vocational degree campus to help them teaching laboratory accounting and audit.
Well, I'm so excited! I can say that is my area of expertise.
Then I helped them, up until now, 2016.
Unfortunately, I only became a temporary or part time lecturer.
If I want to become permanent lecturer, I must get my master degree.
That's why, in this year, I stop and stare for a while.
Looking back through my achievements in the pasr,
And see what's my other 5 years or 10 years or other longer time goals.
This year, I decided to resign from my current position in Big 4, to continue my study in master degree.
I know it will be inpossible for me to only study, not working.
Because I have finance myself independently since I can search my own money.
And it will be funny if I suddenly ask my parent to finance me.
But, my current goal is master degree.
In 2016 I have to go to master degree with or without scholarship.
If without scholarship, I will find a firm who will to hire or even better, finance my school.
So yes, I'm in my first milestone in auditing world
It's such a great journey.
Up until now, I still have big desire of becoming auditor.
Even better, I want to be an audit partner!
Hell yeah!
Because I was concern of the number public accountant in Indonesia.
Only 1000! Maybe now have becoming 2000 something after the PRP CPAI from IAPI.
But still! We lost numbers from other public accountant in other Asia!
Moreover, in female one.
Hell no!
I try so hard in this age, so when I married (maximum 5 years from now), I'm in top management in the firm, so I have more flexy time in office, and I can take care my family better.
In big 4, as far as I knew, the higher you're in, the lessen your target hour, because your fee per hour become more expensive.
That makes sense.
If God still allow me become an auditor up until 10 years from now, I want to have other side jobs other than become audit partner, such as audit committe, independent commissioner, director perhaps, ministry expertise staff, and become a permanent lecturers in top campuses.
Everything is possible if we keep praying and keep doing our best efforts!
Am I ambitious?
Maybe.
But the truth is, I only a dreamer, who loves to dream and make my dream come true.
That's simple.
Everything begin with small gaze, simple tought, your mind and soul just make it bigger and try to make it come true.
That's the secret theory.
But if things didn't went well as you expected (like my love life maybe).
Well, God has many other better way more than you can imagine.
One thing that I just wanna say as the conclusion:
If you're an accounting student, work in public accounting firm, be an auditor, use your mind, so 4 or more years that you spent in college is not a waste.
(Yes it is a promotion, personal, unpaid, seriously!).
It's thrilling, very dynamic, and demand you to keep learning.
But hey, we must not stop learning right?
As teach in my religion "Pursue, use, and make your knowledge useful for you and other people, it will help you in another life)".
And it is fun you know.
Every job has their own missery, but if you only focusing on what's the bad, that's mean that job is not for you.
But if you still can think the good of it, then it's your call.
Be an auditor, like me
(Still promotion. Hahaaha)
I will discuss in another blogpost abour: why auditor, why not other job?
See you in another blogpost!

assalamualaikum,,
ReplyDeletembk gita masih ingat saya? hehe, yg dulu pernah tanya2 tentang kiat2 menjadi seorang auditor,
trimakasih, smoga gk bosen2 bwt ngeshare ilmu dan pengalaman,, be auditor, be keren,, ;)
Haiiii!! Alhamdulillah. Trus kerjanya dimana? Di mataram kah? Jauh yaaaaa. Tapi mudah2an smakin banyak kap di seluruh Indonesia. Ga cuma di Jakarta aja. Amin.
DeleteHahahaha.
Banyak kok orang nanya itu.
Apalagi aku cewe kan ya.
Pada bilang "tar ga nikah2 loh".
Tapi gimana dong ya. Masih asik sih soalnya jadi auditor.
Seru aja gitu.
Pernah kok, aku dah nyoba BI,OJK,kemenkeu, company.
Tapi emang belum rejeki nya aja kali ya.
Gede diawal doang, tapi nanti stagnan.
Eh tau2 keterima big 4.
Mungkin sudah jalannya sama di atas kali ya.
Hehe.
Setuju.
Aku berpikir, kita kuliah lama2 kan, tapi kalau ilmunya tidak dimanfaatkan,sia2 aja dong belajar cape2.
Maka dari itu. Being auditor is one of the way supaya ilmu kita bermanfaat.
Semangat!
Nikmatin aja prosesnya.
Semoga sukses!
;)
